And So The Story Ends

Good Morning World and thanks for tuning in to the penultimate post day here on Planet Magnet. After this post there will be only one more and that won’t be for a couple of weeks as I tell the story of my walk along Britain’s oldest Road.

That means this is post number 499!

Quite an incredible feat but one that I suppose I am quite proud to have achieved.

I have always said that I would share my life with you guys for the next 499 posts, after which I would walk the Ridgeway for the Charity HENRY and make my 500th and final post about that very walk.

It is hard to consider the person I was when I started out on the journey. Some people don’t even recognise me as I have changed so much physically, others don’t recognise me because I have changed so much mentally.

Regardless of which is more significant I think we must all agree that since my surgery and subsequent life change, this person…

Back Camera

With My Mum!

Is no longer anything like this person….

If we consider way back when I started this little blog after advice to do so, I was incredibly unfit, unhappy, lonely, I was letting life pass me by and I was disengaged.

No more though.

What a difference 18mths and the help and support of medical professionals and all of you guys here on Word Press who come to read my words every day. Some of you read quietly and fly under the radar and some of you read and comment and encourage. Regardless of which camp you fall into, I appreciate you all so very very much and I thank you all very much from the bottom of my heart.

You guys have made the incredible challenge of 499 posts a possibility and I am so happy that I have completed what I set out to do I think all I need do now is wish myself Bon Voyage, Bon Chance and Bon Temps for the next week of walking. You will be able to follow my updates on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram…..

So until I write and publish the story of my walk, I shall leave you with these words from T.S Elliots Little Gidding (pointed TO me by Osyth from Half Baked in Paradise but here mixed up by ME) and hopefully they will sum up all I have been trying to say…

“To make an end is to make a beginning so always remember last years thoughts belong to last years language whereas next years words await another voice”

So ’till the last time,

Stay out of the fridge.

P.S. Don’t forget to follow this link and donate to my just giving page.

A Change IS As Good As A Rest

The Cambridge dictionary describes this quote as:

“A change of work or occupation can be as restorative or refreshing as a period of relaxation”.

Very true though.

This often used quote is bandied around on any number of occasions to explain actions which may appear quite extreme in regards to a simpler solution.

If you find that something isn’t working for you whether it be a job, a relationship or a simple thing like a health and fitness regime, sometimes a complete change is as good as the rest you might have if taking a break from whatever it is that seems to be getting you down or wearing you out.

Today Is A Rest Day So Let Me Put My Feet Up

So it’s Sunday.

The day of rest.

The day for putting your feet up and contemplating your week.

To that end, today I shall not write a lengthy blog.

In fact today and tomorrow I shall only be posting a quick message and my food diary as I have no energy for the gym or walking and am taking these days off.

I’m pretty sure I deserve it!

Yesterday was the Party in the Park and yet another mini school reunion. This time I was going to be able to mingle with people instead of being sat at a table on my own not knowing what would happen next as I was still learning the rules of my new stomach.

I Haven’t A Thing To Wear But It Doesn’t Matter

As many of you who follow this blog and read my training schedule will know, today is a rest day from the gym and I shall only be taking the dog for a walk a little later in the day as I shall spend a good deal of it saying farewell to an old family friend who died the week before last, as today is her funeral.

Now I am not going to be downcast because she really wasn’t that type of lady. She was happy and easy going and a person on whom I could always rely should the need have arisen. I shall no doubt miss her as time passes but today I shall not let that cloud my thoughts because she will always be in my memory and in my heart. I suppose that is what you get for knowing someone ALL of your life (and I do mean ALL 47 years) they become like family.

The Lazy Monkey

Today I don’t feel like doing anything, I just want to lay in my bed*

This pretty much summed up the feeling of yesterday as it saw me take in a well deserved rest day enjoying maximum resting that was available to me 😉

Nothing much therefore to report I am afraid. Obviously I wrote the blog and I also finished off some writing that I was supposed to finish the day before :-/ I was due to meet my friend from France to discuss my novel and some other projects but unfortunately that was cancelled, however I still managed to fill the day with some other bits and pieces so all in all a good day to be honest but a day taken at my pace and not being bullied into things that might see me deviate from my planned rest because as I say “All work and no play….”

Grubs Up Everybody!

Morning readers! How are you today? Here in the land of the Worlds Biggest Fridge Magnet, I have to be honest and say things are pretty cool. Yesterday not much happened so I have decided to give you a bonus recipe of Chilli Chicken Soup so read on for the instructions, it’s delicious!

Because yesterday was a rest day, I decided to take full advantage of it as Mum said she was walking the dog. This was probably just as well because I think I may have strained a hamstring yesterday doing one of my many gym exercises before walking whereas I normally walk before the gym so am warmed up a touch and maybe prevent myself getting any injuries. Not that I’m annoyed or anything, it feels good to have a tight hamstring, makes me feel like I am actually doing something strenuous and it’s making a difference.

I Must Not Fear, Fear Is The Mind-killer

Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear, I will permit it to pass over me and through me; and when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.*

Welcome to the weekend folks, it’s Saturday and for some of us it is time to put our feet up. I for one have every intention of doing just that after a good night out last night at a local quiz night, which was weirdly enough staged in a primary school (ages 4 to 11). But regardless of venue was great fun and I believe all involved enjoyed themselves, even if the furniture was a little on the small side 😉
