Follow The Walk!

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet.

As you know, we are getting ever closer to the time when I don my walking boots and set off on a trip along the Ridgeway.

As I walk I shall take pictures and make mental (and probably actual notes) of and about all I see and experience HOWEVER, these will be used in the final blog – No 500 – so I won’t really want to dilute them down in anyway by posting them each day.

To that end I have decided that I shall post on Facebook and Twitter each day of the walk and then once finished, I shall have a break whilst I create the story of the walk in words and pictures then I shall post that as No 500 on here.

I trust that makes sense for you all and you will all understand the need for updates and not being required to post during the walk.

Good.

Itinerary and Invitations!!

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet!

Today we are once again nearing the end of the week and so as we start to wind down for the Bank Holiday (here in the UK at least…) I have decided it is the right time to be telling you guys where I will be on each day of my walk and how to join me should you wish and I sincerely do hop you do wish to join me because I would love as many people along for the ride as possible so please please please do try your best to join me on at least one or two of the days….. 🙂

Okay!
The Itinerary has landed.
This coming June the 12th I shall be starting to walk the Ridgeway over the following week. If you would like to join me at ANY point of this walk then please just get in touch but for now I have a list of where I will be walking each day.
Sunday June 12th – Walk starts at Ivinghoe Beacon near Tring.
This day I will be walking to Wendover.
This is an 11 mile walk and so is possibly the best day for most people to come and enjoy the expected good weather and not feel like they are having to walk too far.
I shall be leaving Ivinghoe Beacon at approximately 9:30 to 10am and expect to arrive in Wendover at approximately 14.30 to 15.00.
I recommend that anyone coming arranges lifts with friends and you maybe attempt to leave one car at Wendover and another at Ivinghoe so you can get back once the walk is finished….. 😉
Please bring your own water and food for the walk as I will be unable to provide these two very important elements.
Alternatively please simply come to wave me off and say Good Bye, Bon Voyage and Farewell!!
Monday June 13th – Wendover to Watlington. This is 17.5 mile day and I expect to be leaving Wendover at 9am and arriving in Watlington at approximately 17:00
Tuesday June 14th – Watlington to Goring and Streatley. This is a 15 mile day. Again I shall be leaving at approximately 9am and expecting to arrive at Goring and Streatley by about 16:00
Wednesday June 15th – Goring and Streatley to Sparsholt Firs. This is a 17.5 mile day and I expect to be leaving Goring and Streatley again at approximately 9am and arriving in Sparsholt at around 17:00 once again.
Thursday June 16th – Sparsholt Firs to Ogbourne St George. This is a 15.5 mile day. Again I hope to start at around 9am and expect to finish at around 16:00 in Ogbourne St George.
Friday June 17th – Ogbourne St George to Overton Hill. This is a very short day of 9miles and to be honest I had planned on walking this section with Archie the Dog and no one else, but if you feel you would like to help me cross the finish line instead of see me over the finish line then you are more than welcome to join me. I expect again to be leaving at about 9am and hope to be crossing the finish line at about 13.30pm.
For exact locations of the starting and stopping points please read on.
Start – Ivinghoe Beacon
600_286736172
The meeting point will be Ivinghoe Beacon National Trust Car Park HP4 1NF (nearest postcode)
The end point will be be Wendover itself as the Ridgeway actually cuts through the town.
Day Two – Wendover
P1080996
There is a car par local to this and there are plenty of sign posts on how to get to the Ridgeway from the town so you cannot go wrong….
The end point will be Watlington. Again there will be signs up to the Ridgeway from the the centre of the town.
Day Three – Watlington
Watlington
Again park in Watlington and make your way up to the Ridgeway. Again plenty of signposts so very little chance of going wrong!
The end point will be Goring and Streatley as you will start to follow the River Thames (strangely enough, another walk known as the Thames Path is on the other side of the river!) We plan to end this day at The Swan in Streatley just before the bridge into Goring.

Day Four – Streatley.
Chilterns-The-Swan-at-Streatley-Low-Res-credit-Chris-Smith-

Day Five – Sparsholt Firs

Meeting and parking at Sparsholt Firs is quite easy to do so with plenty of room. We finish this day at Foxhill which is easily found off of Callas Hill out of Wanborough. There is a car park there so plenty of parking and easy to collect – Grid Ref SU 233 815
Day Six – Foxhill

Meeting at Foxhill for the final day shall bring the walk to a close at Overton Hill. This is the end of the Ridgeway and can be found just off of the A4 near West Kennet.

This brings the walk to a close and I hope as many of you can join me as is humanly possible. Please do come and walk, whether it be an hour, a day or more, I would love to have you with me 🙂

Don’t Believe The Hype…..

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet.

Today I have decided to write a post answering an inquiry I had from a chap by the name of Jay from Arizona.

It went like this…..

“Hello from Arizona!
I started reading your blog and found it when I was searching for posts about life after a gastric sleeve.
I am intent on having the surgery done myself, and was glad to find your post below where you talk about your new portion size prior to having the surgery.

Will I Be Wise With My Portion Size

This is one of my concerns as many of the thoughts you wrote about are some concerns I have myself – such as taking to large of bites and causing pain, having to learn to slowly chew my food rather than bite, chew and swallow…..not being able to gulp down large amounts of water when very thirsty, etc…

Now I suppose you wrote that post based on everything you read, and others you spoke to about their experiences. But what I am curious is if you could share if your actual experiences were different from what you were expecting? In addition how is it in comparison to eating now many months after surgery?
I suppose allot of things change and your able to get acclimated to your new stomach and your habits, and with so new experiences are occurring daily when you eat.

Hoping you can take a moment to share this experience with me, I would be thankful as I am planning my own journey”

What an excellent question!

Where Have You Been!!!

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet!

I trust today’s version of Tuesday finds you as up beat and optimistic as it finds me! I am in a good mood. Today I go to see the psychologist for my 6 monthly head check since my weight loss surgery and then I see the Bariatric team to discuss the next twelve months. I was actually supposed to do this just after the year anniversary in March but I had to cancel due to illness. However, today I am feeling fit and ready to go and therefore I shall attend and get all of the information I require about my bloods and heavy legs but I am feeling better day on day so am now looking forward to the walk and the future of my new business.

I know today is usually Tasty Tuesday but unfortunately I have not had time to prepare a new recipe. I also know that I had promised to give you part 7 of “Looking back” and that was supposed to be launched yesterday.

For these two fails I apologise. I trust you guys understand why and will always remain my WP Pals even though I have been telling little porkies…. 😉

So then, my new business.

Well that to be honest has been the reason why I have not managed to post for the past couple of days and possibly the main reason why I am feeling better day on day. I feel as though I have a purpose once again that can dictate my future. Where I am in control and doing things I WANT to do and not HAVE to do.

We Simply Ran Out Of Time….

Hi Guys!

Evening to all in the UK, morning to the southern hemisphere and nearly evening to many others of you around the world.

Today I ran out of time.

I was like the White Rabbit.

“I’m late, I’m late for
A very important date.
No time to say hello, good-bye,
I’m late, I’m late, I’m late
I’m late and when I wave,
I lose the time I save.
My fuzzy ears and whiskers
Took me too much time to shave.
I run and then I hop, hop, hop,
I wish that I could fly.
There’s danger if I dare to
Stop and here’s a reason why:
I’m over-due, I’m in a rabbit stew.
Can’t even say good-bye,
hello, I’m late, I’m late, I’m late”

I had so much to do today and the day just evaporated before my very eyes leading me to wish for more hours in the day! I mean, what person in their right mind does that? It is 21.30 at night and I have just got home after starting my chores and business at 07:30 this morning!

Thus I have had NO time for writing Pt 7 of Looking Back….. and therefore must apologise to you all for letting you down. Don’t worry though, I will post Parts 7 and 8 next week, hope that satisfies your need for a story from the Magnet.

Thursday Vlogger Blogs

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet and what a lovely day it is looking. As you will see in the video, the sun is shining a little and I am ready to take on the world – well sort of….

So anyway, without further ado….

‘Till tomorrow,

Stay out of the fridge.

Here Comes Another Winter, Waiting For Eutopia.

Waiting For Hell To Freeze Over*

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here in Planet Magnet. I trust all is well in your world and that the week is barrelling along nicely for you. Here in the U.K, the rain is back (what else!) after five days of sunshine, so having had our summer I figure we start preparing for the winter to come… 😉

Only joking on that font guys, however, Heartland by The, The seemed like the perfect lyric to use given that when yesterday I spoke to a friend of mine (The Chimp from The Lonely Author) he suggested I write what my Eutopia might look like given that I am now over a year past my surgery date and the fact my life has changed so dramatically in that short period of time. That I have become such a different man over the past several years of trials and tribulations. That I am still scared and excited in equal measure of what is to come in my life. That I am surrounded by more love in my life than I have experienced for a long time, yet I feel lonely on a daily basis.

Now I should put a warning here, because if any of you are not in the mood for my truth then I suggest you stop reading now, plus it is nearly 2000 words long so you might struggle a little looking for a quick read….

I am always honest with this blog yet I do confess that am still selective about what I write and today I write exactly how I feel and make no apologies for it.

So where was I? Oh yes, my own Eutopia. Or put quite simply, where would my ideal life be at this moment in time?

I know it might sound fatuous to do such a thing but it is in our dreams that we create our future (or some semblance of it) and it is only by daring to dream do we ever achieve our ability to move on.

Writers Block… The Scurge Of Us All.

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet. I trust you all had a good weekend and things are now back to the Monday morning routine.

Yesterday (as you will probably already have worked out) I didn’t post. This was the second time this month I have gone absent without leave and can only apologise for anyone who was expecting yet another instalment on my ever-so fruitful life.

On Saturday I went to look at a van and after viewing decided to buy as I firmly believe it would be an ideal vehicle with which to start my new local handy man business.
