And So The Story Ends

Good Morning World and thanks for tuning in to the penultimate post day here on Planet Magnet. After this post there will be only one more and that won’t be for a couple of weeks as I tell the story of my walk along Britain’s oldest Road.

That means this is post number 499!

Bundesstraße_499_number.svg

Quite an incredible feat but one that I suppose I am quite proud to have achieved.

I have always said that I would share my life with you guys for the next 499 posts, after which I would walk the Ridgeway for the Charity HENRY and make my 500th and final post about that very walk.

It is hard to consider the person I was when I started out on the journey. Some people don’t even recognise me as I have changed so much physically, others don’t recognise me because I have changed so much mentally.

Regardless of which is more significant I think we must all agree that since my surgery and subsequent life change, this person…

Is no longer anything like this person….

If we consider way back when I started this little blog after advice to do so, I was incredibly unfit, unhappy, lonely, I was letting life pass me by and I was disengaged.

No more though.

What a difference 18mths and the help and support of medical professionals and all of you guys here on Word Press who come to read my words every day. Some of you read quietly and fly under the radar and some of you read and comment and encourage. Regardless of which camp you fall into, I appreciate you all so very very much and I thank you all very much from the bottom of my heart.

You guys have made the incredible challenge of 499 posts a possibility and I am so happy that I have completed what I set out to do I think all I need do now is wish myself Bon Voyage, Bon Chance and Bon Temps for the next week of walking. You will be able to follow my updates on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram…..

So until I write and publish the story of my walk, I shall leave you with these words from T.S Elliots Little Gidding (pointed TO me by Osyth from Half Baked in Paradise but here mixed up by ME) and hopefully they will sum up all I have been trying to say…

“To make an end is to make a beginning so always remember last years thoughts belong to last years language whereas next years words await another voice”

So ’till the last time,

Stay out of the fridge.

A Final Video Blog Farewell.

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet.

Today we start the week with just 6 more posts (including this one) remaining until I leave for my epic walk where I shall record the final chapter of this blog by telling you all about my journey along the Ridgeway.

However, today I shall simply be talking about the blog and how I would never have dreamed I would ever reach the stage that I have today including all other sundry items along the way….

So carry on and watch, see what you can see and let me know what you think in the comments….

‘Till tomorrow,

Stay out of the fridge.

Looking Back Over My Shoulder Pt8

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet. Today we find ourselves at the much awaited day of Friday.

Yippee! It’s Friday!!!

Okay, Okay, Calm Down Dear….!

Right, so as it’s Friday I suppose we must press on with my Looking Back series where I tell you guys a little about myself and last time I think I left you with the fact I had just fallen asleep after a mammoth 57 hrs of being awake…..

So the next morning, I awoke cold and a little disoriented for sure. I had been expecting to sleep the sleep of the dead but I recall I ended up rising as the others in the house stirred and so was fortunate to witness what was to become a morning ritual.

The removal of the ice from the INSIDE of the patio window. The window of the room I slept in!!

No wonder it was a bit parky….!

Follow The Walk!

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet.

As you know, we are getting ever closer to the time when I don my walking boots and set off on a trip along the Ridgeway.

As I walk I shall take pictures and make mental (and probably actual notes) of and about all I see and experience HOWEVER, these will be used in the final blog – No 500 – so I won’t really want to dilute them down in anyway by posting them each day.

To that end I have decided that I shall post on Facebook and Twitter each day of the walk and then once finished, I shall have a break whilst I create the story of the walk in words and pictures then I shall post that as No 500 on here.

I trust that makes sense for you all and you will all understand the need for updates and not being required to post during the walk.

Good.

Thursday Vlogger Blogs

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet and what a lovely day it is looking. As you will see in the video, the sun is shining a little and I am ready to take on the world – well sort of….

So anyway, without further ado….

‘Till tomorrow,

Stay out of the fridge.

The Early Worm Gets The Van…

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet.

It’s the weekend!

But today, strangely enough that’s about all I have to say about that…..

Anyway.

I am up early this morning to quickly write this post to say hello and I hope you enjoy yourselves as much as I plan to and also to let you know what I am doing today.

As some of you may recall I am setting up a business as a handy man and although I have been D.I.Y’ing for a few years now and have the bulk of the tools I require to do the job, I am still short of one main ingredient.

Transport. Or more specifically, a van.

So today I go to look at one and to get an idea of what looking a trifle more professional when turning up to jobs in a van will look like.

Looking Back Over My Shoulder Pt6

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet. I hope the sun is shining and you are all set for the weekend. I am looking forward to a comparatively quiet one myself with a good deal of relaxation impacting on the time I have available but I am a firm believer in setting out your stall in advance when it comes to planning some hardcore relaxation. Relaxation that will of course be linked with some form of walking with the dog, especially if the weather is a bright as I expect it to be…..

Anyway, that is enough of that, you have come here to read about more dim and distant past so without further ado, lets take you back to December 24th 1992…

Don’t forget folks, this is all taken from memory so let us allow me a little artistic licence from time to time….

I arrived in Auckland, N.Z and was duly met at the airport by my cousins husband John. Delighted to see me and determined to make me feel at home we loaded my kit into the back of his station wagon and set off for home where his wife was unaware of me actually being in the southern hemisphere at all let alone coming to visit her in Hamilton for Christmas, or so we thought…..

Looking Back Over My Shoulder Pt5

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet.

It’s Friday!

Woo Hoo!

Yep, the weekend is nearly upon us and here in the UK we are expecting a bit of a corker weather wise so I shall be looking forward to getting out and about and soaking up as much warmth and brightness as the weekend will offer.

However, back to today and it is time to take you on the next part of the journey around the world. Last week I believe I left you in a bar where I was attempting to get out of the oppressive heat and humidity of Darwin. Here I met all manner of characters, including one or two of the unsavoury variety who had left the UK amny years previously rather than face the music for certain transgressions against the authorities.

Enough said there I think!

Heading to the air conditioning of a bar was something I would do on a regular basis whilst in Darwin if only just to get out of the stifling heat, but because of this I was able to meet up with a couple of guys who were looking to go into Kakadoo National Park to get away from the humidity (it’s still hot no matter where you go!) Now over 20 years on I can no longer remember the guys names but I do remember they owned an old Datsun estate car that they were determined to drive it into the huge National Park and see what it was all about.
All of this was quite the adventure for a boy from a small town in Oxfordshire I can tell you. On the way we drove past Kangeroos, Koalas and MASSIVE Termite mounds.

Another Day Another Milestone.

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet 🙂

Today is a happy day.

The sun is streaming through my window, flooding my office with brilliant brightness as I write. These are the kind of days that make you feel alive and happy to be so.

Plus there is another reason for smiling. Today I officially reached 800 followers on the blog!

Looking Back Over My Shoulder Pt4

Good Morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet.

It’s Friday!

Yippee!

A bit too much?

Yeah, I suppose so BUT it’s the weekend and here in the U.K the start of a three day weekend by virtue of the fact we have a Bank Holiday on Monday so that’s an extra day of freedom!

I hope this weekend holds as much for you as it does for me. I am actually wondering how I will fit it all in because there is so many activities planned as I said yesterday in my video and this evening they kick off with a Dinner and Dance at my friend’s Mother’s Dementia care unit. I know it’s not the usual way that I would have once torn up the town on a Friday night but it is something that will make her mum happy and that in itself is a smile worthy thing if ever there was one.
