Good morning world and thanks for tuning in to another Tasty Tuesday here in Planet Magnet. Today I have decided to share a recipe that I followed from one of the big guns of cooking…. Jamie Oliver.
Yes, I have followed the old Essex boy’s recipe for a healthy main course dish so here’s hoping you too can follow it but then as I have said many times before, if I can do it then I am absolutely certain that you can as well….
So then, what is it we have for you today then?
How does Fish Pie sound?
Good eh?
But it’s more than just a simple fish pie, it is a super healthy version of the pie made with some veggies instead of the which sauce… Different eh?
Yep, different, but GOOD different.
So here’s how you do it.
Ingredients:
- Olive Oil.
- Smoked Haddock.
- Cod Fillet.
- Salmon Fillet.
- Kind Prawns.
- Scallops.
- 1 Large Carrot – grated.
- 2 Large Celery Sticks – grated.
- 150gms Mature Cheddar Cheese – grated.
- 1 Small Chilli – finely chopped.
- Himalayan Pink Salt.
- Course Ground Cracked Black Pepper.
- 1kg Potatoes.
- 1 Large Lemon.
- Fresh Flay Leaf Parsley – finely chopped.
- 1 Handful Spinach – finely chopped.
Firstly take a pan of water place on the stove and bring to the boil for the potatoes. Whilst these boil, take the Carrot and peel and chop in half.
Then grate into a large ceramic dish.
Do the same with the Celery.
Then take the Lemon and with the fine part of the grater, grate the zest in the other mixture.
Take the Chilli and finely chop.
Then add to the dish.
Chop the Fresh Parsley.
And mix in well with the rest of the ingredients.
Prepare the Cod, Haddock and Salmon into bite size pieces.
Chop the Spinach.
Then add the Fish and the Spinach to the dish.
Before squeezing the juice of the Lemon into the mixture (careful not to let any pip’s get through though…
Add a couple of slugs of Olive Oil.
The Himalayan Pink Salt.
The Cracked Black Pepper.
Measure out the 150gms of Cheddar Cheese.
Add to the dish.
Then mix well in to the rest of the ingredients.
Next take the now boiled and strained Potatoes and add some salt.
Some Cracked Pepper.
And a couple of good slugs of Olive Oil.
And mash together.
Until smooth.
At which point you cover the contents of the dish with Potato.
Put in the oven for 40 minutes at 200˚C, at which point when it is removed you should have something like this….
At which point you serve with a vegetable of your choice and…..
Eh, Voila!!
Once again the Worlds Biggest Fridge Magnet proves that cooking need not be difficult as he follows a specific recipe and create a dish fit for a king ( and even one who is on a diet!)
So everybody, if I can do this then so can you! There is no need to be eating processed foods and no need to be making do. Yes it may be a little more expensive than normal but I can guarantee that it will serve many meals and that always works out less expensive in the long run!!
‘Till tomorrow,
Stay out of the fridge.
Cameron, this sounds great. I love fish, and am always keen to learn new ways of enjoying it. Generally, if we get fresh fish it is a matter of a sear on each side on the grill….so this is a lovely change. Also, the healthy vegetable option as a side, is perfect, thank you 🙂

Wonderful recipe, especially for busy people… Do ahead, one dish, plenty of leftovers. I could even see making individual servings, baking, then freezing to pull out as needed. I especially love your message of giving up the processed foods!!!

Absolutely give up the processed foods for sure, especially when the alternative is this easy…..

Fish Pie sounds very British to me haha. I’m not sure why. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard of that over here in the US. It looks really yummy. Mmmm

Fish pie has its origins in the UK so you are quite right there! It is well copied and published so I am surprised it has never crossed over to your neck of the woods…!

Fish and seafood is plentiful and absolutely delicious here so this is definitely on the list. NO cheese though as Two Brains is pathalogically against cooked cheese. It’s a great lighter take on Fish pie and if you used cauliflower mash it would be even lighter. I’m in!

Cauliflower mash! What a great idea!
I think I may just try that for the next one I make, but there will definitely be cheese. There must always be cheese….!

This is how I know I love my husband – I sacrificed the cooked cheese on the altar of our relationship. However, fortunately it is only the COOKED cheese – if it was all cheese there would have been no happy ending only a walk into the sunset for me 🙂

We must ALL have access to cheese, it is the LAW and as Wallace said “Cracking Cheese Grommit” there can be no finer dairy product cooked or uncooked…!

Indeed and you are preaching to the converted …. I used to sneak into the shop late at night to ‘check on the cheeses’ which translates as snaffle a few more shifty morcels before bedtime 🙂 Wensledale remains a favourite 😉

Water water water. It is so much easier with water, a busy life and pre homemade healthy meals. I promise you cupcakes. Oh, and there is even room for the occasional one of those as well…!

I’m working on drinking more water, but it’s hard as a teacher. I can’t exactly interrupt my lessons all day long to go to the bathroom. 😩

However, I am sorry to report that is no recompense, monetary or otherwise….

Now it’s a horror movie filled with fish! BTW, no Scottish ancestry just a Scottish upbringing and accent. Only ever did feel American…

Really? I suppose that is how I feel about Scotland as although I was born and raised in England I only consider myself Scottish.

I seem to irritate people intensely that I don’t feel Scottish although I am very grateful for my education and healthcare. I had a Hispanic name and we kept trying to go back ‘home’ to the States until my mum’s illness stopped that. Not only that, my family were all born in Ireland so they sounded and looked Irish!
