On the Ninth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me…
Nine Ladies Dancing, Eight Maids a Milking, Seven Swans a Swimming, Six Geese a Laying, Five Gold Rings, Four Calling Birds, Three French Hens, Two Turtle Doves and a Partridge in a Pear tree.
So It all over and done with now. New Years is but a memory. Heads have cleared and resolutions will be starting to take up their part in the new life you promised yourself. In fact, the things we all promised ourselves will finally happen.
We will have emptied the fridge of anything unhealthy, we will have put the beer and wines away and we will have renewed our Gym memberships.
What could possibly go wrong….?
Well it’s only an idea but I would say that too much too soon could possibly undo even the best intentioned of people. Maybe a slow ease in to the year would be the best way to go…
At the start of week one how about you begin with a gentle stroll to get the blood pumping. Increase the greens in your diet, reduce your sugar intake and make sure you eat a good breakfast each day. How about reducing your alcohol intake as well? I know it may hurt more than the food but it is much better for you… There, that takes care of the first week.
In week two you can continue with this new eating regime and possibly drop the booze a bit more so that by the end of that second week you are choosing water or tea over a beer or a glass of wine. Hopefully you will have improved your fitness by making the most of the better weather and walked everywhere.
Remember, during this time the Gym has no doubt been crazy busy anyway with lots of good intentioned people but we know that by now it will have started to slacken off, so why not make the most of it and get yourself down there? You are still eating healthily getting plenty of greens and proteins in your reduced sugar an reduced alcohol diet so you should be able to hit a now routine with ease and not feel as though it is all too much….
Finally, don’t forget the new work/life balance that you promised yourself. There is much more to you than sitting in your office well past the time everyone else has gone home. You know that it is not appreciated, you know that the people above you simply expect it anyway so it’s time to put your words into practise and make your stand.
So for sure make 2016 your year of taking control of your life, your year of eating healthy, your year of finally throwing of the chains and getting yourself fit.
But most of all, make 2016 your year of you….
Go on, you never know, you might like it.
Stay out of the fridge.
