This IS The Day..

This is the day your life will surely change
This is the day when things fall into place.*

I know some of you will know this phrase to have religious connotations but not being a religious person myself, I cannot make any claim on that so I settle for the perfectly wonderful lyric of Matt Johnson of The The fame.

This song know simply as “This is the day” was released many moons ago in 1984 and has once again recently entered my purview as something that is very apt.

This is the day that my life will surely change can be attributed to any day. In fact it can be attributed to EVERY day that we meet because we never know exactly what is going to happen, we never know exactly what we will face and if we are realistic, every single day, our lives change somehow, no matter how small or large that change may be.

Today for me my life will change because I am heading out to pick up that new acquisition I made a couple of days ago.

This morning, this little beauty is coming home with me –

I know it’s pretty sad to call something such as this a “little beauty” but I confess, I am a little excited about getting back in the saddle and know that todays actions will change my life going forward. Now hopefully this won’t be from broken bones as I ignominiously crash and burn for all to see, but more from the fact that I have rekindled a long lost passion or indeed taken something that I believed to be a long lost passion and finally entered into the correct spirit of it, concentrating more on the cycling outdoors than the specification of the bike I chose.

Please do not forget however that this statement can be made about a myriad of things. I really do not wish to sound at all “preachy” but today you may decide that for the rest of your life you will drink more water each day, that you will for one day volunteer at a local event, that you might give up drinking for the foreseeable future (no, that one is mine 😉 ) or that you might be making that life changing decision to have weight loss surgery (as I did nearly two years ago). Regardless of how big or small the change is it can affect you for the rest of your life. Take for example the water, even if you only keep it up for three weeks, during that three weeks you may have done exactly what your body needed to divert a medical issue that could have become greater than it needed to. The same goes for the volunteering. It may only be one day out of your life but it could help make such difference to another person that could end up saving theirs. Extreme I know but what we must never do is underestimate the sheer power our actions can take or become whether big or small.

This is why I say do it now. I keep on banging on about an aggregation of margins but it is true. We need to do things now because they don’t get easier putting them off till later. What we achieve today will mean something today. What we manage today will affect us and the rest of the world for all eternity. Don’t let it make you afraid to act but if we all went around saying “Mañana” we would never achieve anything that we dream of.

As Dr Seuss said “Today I shall behave, as if this is the day I shall be remembered”

So please remember guys, we only have ONE life and we need to try and make each day count and with that in mind, today I want you to think of something you have been meaning to do, someone you have been meaning to help or simply something you have been meaning to stop doing and simply DO IT

‘Till tomorrow,

Stay out of the fridge.

That really is a lovely looking bike. You’re right things can feel a bit like “Groundhog Day” at times but you have to make things happen. I’ll throw a little song back at you today for the bike ride…. “Born Free & life is worth living……” 🙂

Thanks Emma, as you say, it is all a question of seizing the moment and not allowing Groundhog Day to set in.
We are all guilty of it so we must all do something about it!
As for the song, I can’t ever get Fletcher’s lyrics (Porridge) out of my mind when somebody mentions the Andy Williams classic Born Free.
“Born free, till somebody caught me…”!!

      That made me laugh.
Think I’m paying lip service to a lot of this getting excited from the sofa going “yeah that’s it that’s absolutely right ” must remember the action part.
If you’re on bike today wrap up its bitter out there ! 🙂

That is THE thing Emma. The world needs armchair warriors but as you say, getting revved up and still sitting on your couch isn’t getting you where you want to be. Get off the couch and get your dog, get yourself out and get going. Don’t ever forget, today is the first day of the rest of your life.
Alternatively, tell me to take a run and jump and mind my own business (after all, that was a bit much wasn’t it!!)

P.s No time for the bike today as already booked out to help the world and his wife! Probably just as well really because I would have gone out inappropriately dressed. This gives me time to pick up some proper gloves and proper leggings…!
