So forget all your duties oh yeah!
Fat bottomed girls they’ll be riding today,
So look out for those beauties oh yeah*
Well I have been threatening to do it for a while now and yesterday I took the plunge.
What is it they say? Act in haste, repent at leisure…
Good morning world and thanks for tuning in to another day here on Planet Magnet.
Yesterday, I once again added to my arsenal of things I need to do because I have the kit for doing them.
Another thing I have heard them say….
“All the gear and no idea…”
Looks like that could be me…..
So what exactly have I done?
Well if the picture at the top of the post doesn’t give it away – no I haven’t started riding around naked, yesterday I took a trip to my local bike store and bought myself a new Trek Mountain Bike!
An X-Caliber 8 to be precise….
A new Mountain Bike?
What must I have been thinking!!
Actually no, if I am honest I have been thinking about doing this for quite a few months now and have always held off until “a more suitable time”, but now it looks as though I might need a bicycle to get myself around on as my car may well be leaving my possession in the next month or so.
So instead of seeing this as a problem I have taken it as an opportunity. I have decided to take the plunge and get a bike that will be good for me both in health and also be a short term fix for a lack of motor car.
So I shall now consider myself one of the crazy masses who spend their weekends riding along trails, getting dirty, creeping up behind people and making them jump because I don’t have a bell (no way man, I’m far too cool for a bell…)
To be honest, I have, as I say been looking forward to getting a bike for some time now. Thus as ever I started my investigations a while ago, but looking into all of the various specifications and lists and frame sizes and brakes and gears etc etc I found I really wasn’t that interested in the bits that go onto the bike, I was more interested in purchasing locally, getting something that fitted correctly and something that would make a difference to my life. You see in the past I have spent months pawing over magazines (not those kinds of magazine…) and internet sites (and not those kinds of sites!) learning as much as I could about what was available. I have even had bikes custom built where I have spec’d every single nut and bolt, tyre bobble and hand grip. Yes I suppose it was fun but I think that is where it kind of ended a little for me. I was possibly too invested in the end product to really enjoy getting out on the bike.
Nowadays, as you are well aware I am far more likely to be found out walking on the Ridgeway or similar than I am to be found in a pub and it is that new found outdoors desire and my new interest in improving myself that leads the way on this charge. I think that it would be fair to say today I am only interested in the end product, so I can get on my bike and ride. However, it will be weird though as I don’t think I have ridden a bike in anger for a good 20 years or so. Yes I have have had little forays in and out of the cycling world during that time but I achieved nothing close to what would ever be considered as bettering my physical and mental health such as I plan this time.
So this weekend I shall collect the bike and the accessories (helmet – safety first, pump, inner tube, water bottle etc etc) and I shall look for somewhere quiet to go for a ride. I shall put on my metaphorical stabilisers and teach myself all about my new bike, find my balance and no doubt fall off….! I am both excited and nervous at this prospect and if I am honest, a little out of my comfort zone. As ever though I won’t go “hell for leather straight out of the gate” but shall take it steady and build up my stamina whilst I once again really enjoy my surroundings.
Well, thats the plan anyway!
Stay out of the fridge
