A Bit Of Sleuthing On The Cards

Oh what a lovely lay in that was. I am so glad I decided to do this at the weekend especially the day after the writing lesson when my brain is pretty fried and all I want when I get home is a walk, a glass of wine (I know! Where did that come from?) and my bed!

Anyway, the lay in is over so lets move onward and upward and get this sucker written…!

I shall as always start by saying good morning everyone and thanks for tuning in 😉 Once again the weekend is upon us and I for one am going to take the opportunity to use the free time (yeah, right 😉 ) to enjoy myself and try my hand at a touch of amateur sleuthing like old Sherlock Holmes himself once did….

Why on earth would you do that Cameron?

Something odd and out of the blue happened to me the other day and since then I have been considering how best to deal with it. Ordinarily I would have left such an oddity alone but my interest has piqued and has now gotten the better of me, thus I have resorted to involving you guys for your input in an attempt to get to the bottom of this little mystery….

Now I know I am no celebrity and certainly as such deserve no fan mail but a couple of days ago I had phone call from a friend who told me the oddest thing.

He was at his gym (mine being the TFD Grove his KA’s Fitness Wantage) and post workout was discussing with a member of staff that he had been out the day before and had seen me. As he continued to speak he could tell that the member of staff was no longer listening but had started to drift off thinking about something else when they suddenly said “Hang on just a minute” and disappeared back into her office before returning with a red envelope saying “I knew I had seen the name Cameron McCulloch before”
Suffice to say my pal gave her an odd look before she held up the card and continued “This card was delivered here a couple weeks ago and made no sense as we have no record of him having a membership here, so it’s been sitting in my office since then”
My pal looked at it, thought what best to do and immediately called me to discuss “No, I have no idea who it’s from and no I have no idea why it would have been sent courtesy of a gym of which I am not a member” was my initial reply, but then intrigue got the better of me and I just had to see what it said.

So under protest, my pal pulled on his tracksuit top and walked down from the gym to my house and duly delivered my mail, all be it nearly 4 weeks late 🙂

It was with a good deal of wonder and trepidation that I opened this envelope.

To reveal this card.

Which when opened to reveal this message.

Well I think my face must have been a complete picture when I saw this! What a lovely surprise! How very kind of someone to take time and to think of doing this. To say I was touched is an understatement and my friends face when he saw it was a picture. He started to look at me as though I were a completely different person. All the time he has known me I have simply been Cameron but after seeing the card he realised I was also the Worlds Biggest Fridge Magnet and an inspirational figure to at least one person 😉

I myself studied the card because my initial reaction had to be someone that knew me had done this, then I thought to myself possibly its someone who doesn’t know me as they chose to send it to the incorrect gym, but then I thought they must have known me because they knew that I used a gym. Then I thought the could have seen that snippet of me in my gym when I was interviewed for the TV.

Oh how the mind works. Darting from one thought to the next in quick succession trying to come up with a solution to the puzzle that has been placed in front of it.

Sherlock Holmes and John Watson must now come into play.

Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law. These men who played their Holmes and Watsons with such aplomb must be my go to guys if ever I am to emulate their silver screen and TV sleuthing abilities. However, already knowing my abilities as I do I am sure to be reduced to ranks more in line with Inch High Private Eye and Secret Squirrel 🙂

Well, from the postmark I can see the card came all the way from Swindon (about 15 miles from where I live) and that it is written by the hand of a lady. Or at least I hope it’s a lady judging by the X’s at the bottom…. The obviously know me as they have called me C.M which are my initials. They are familiar with how far I have come so they know my story. But they don’t know me that well because they have the wrong postal address, no county and no postcode.

Then they sign it Anon y Mouse and draw a brilliant little drawing of a mouse. Much better than I could draw and thats for sure. So this person has a sense of humour, a sense of mystery and can draw very small mice. Hmmmm.

It just gets curiouser and curiouser…..

But regardless of that fact, I am afraid that this is unfortunately where my sleuthing abilities come to their end. I have to be honest, I have no idea who sent it. It could be anyone.

I suppose it could have been my Mum though!

No, this is the point where we combine our sleuthing talents (well, you use yours because I obviously have NONE) and we see if we can get to the bottom of who sent it because I would simply like to say thank you. It was very kind.

P.s. To the person who sent this card in. I am honestly very touched and I want you to know that showing it here on the site has in no way undermined your act of support and kindness.

P.P.s I’m hoping you saw what I did there with the title. Something on the cards means its going to happen and I received a card! Oh my, I am such a CARD!!

Food for Thursday was okay. I deliberately had a decent protein rich breakfast before I went to the HENRY meeting as I didn’t want to pick at biscuits and cake on the coffee breaks and I left at lunchtime because I didn’t want to become tempted by all of the glorious “carboriffic” foods I thought they might be serving. Then it was only whilst I was driving to the next part of my day that it dawned on me. There would only be healthy food available at a charity that deals with obesity on a daily basis.

Still, I had left and couldn’t very well turn back and go and eat could I! So I headed to Waitrose and I picked up a couple of packs of cold cuts and kept the protein only vibe going. However, even though I managed it through the day, I must confess that I had no idea the carbohydrate value of the yogurt was so high either! Still in the grand scheme of things I appear to have started to get back on top of my choices once again and am making the changes where they matter.

As for exercise, yesterday was very sedentary due to the fact I was sat in the classroom yesterday. However, when I got home I decided that a good way to decompress would be to take the dog for a short walk so this is what we did. He had actually been out with my mother in the afternoon and they themselves had already covered a few miles so you imagine how reluctant he was to be going out again. Still, I managed to get him to walk far enough that I was able to relax a trifle from the day and put things into perspective meaning I only needed ONE glass of wine after I had eaten my Quinoa Salad.

Obviously there are no screenshots of the walk because it was too short to be honest, however, my Jawbone Up2 threw up a pleasant surprise in that shape of me having covered over 7,000 steps.

Happy with that.

‘Till tomorrow,

Stay out of the fridge.

Unfortunately I don’t know that I can help with the sleuthing but I am touched FOR you that someone went through a lot of effort to share how inspirational they find you. I would want to know who sent it too, but clearly they wanted to be anonymous so it could be best to let them have that. You know? Thanking them here and taking the chance that they may read the blog is so nice – but clearly their gesture was intended to be veiled in mystery. Now having said that, I would be dying to know who sent it. LOL

      I know right!!
I wanted it to remain personal and just for me but I also wanted to share with other people to show how much OUR words mean to some others that may be struggling.
I honestly hope I haven’t overstepped and their anonymity is their choice so we will see where it takes us….

That’s weird wasn’t going to look @ this today. I sent the card a while ago as genuinely thougt that you deserved all the encouragement that you get, as youre turning your life around & inspiring others, didn’t think I’d ever use twitter. End of mystery I afraid. It was heartfelt though, hence no name.

It is a bit of an anti climax to your story. Like I said I wasn’t interested in you having a name as “I just wanted you to get the message”.Just assumed that it had never found its way.
I hadn’t been leaving the house and seeing you on TV did inspire me made me feel less stigmatized and isolated with my own issues. Sorry folks
You’ll have to make up some s….. now to get today’s blog back on track !!!! 🙂

First and foremost, congratulations on impacting someone’s life. The greatest gift we can ever receive is the gift of giving to others. I look forward to enjoying your travels on the road to better health (notice I didn’t say weight loss) since the result of this path is a healthy weight outcome. Unhealthy weight is nothing more than a symptom of a bigger underlying problem. As I read your stories, I am so impressed with your dedication to modify your lifestyle. If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to shout my way for an opinion. Health is my PASSION and helping people achieve the goals THEY WANT is one of my greatest PURPOSES in life.
Side Note: Non Fat GREEK yogurt has nearly twice the protein level of regular yogurt. You can always add fresh fruit for sweetness and flavor. Be careful, regular yogurt is commonly loaded with SUGAR!
