So Where Am I Going With All Of This?

I think the time has come to ask the above question, don’t you?

I spoke to a very dear friend on Wednesday and she posed a couple of questions that have really had me thinking.

How do I make this blog grow so I can garner the following I need to gain the media attention that I will require to make the absolute most of my charity walks to prevent today’s children becoming the future generations Obese?

Plus how do I increase my exposure to the media of the excellent work Bariatric Surgery can achieve and how peoples lives are changed beyond all recognition.

It strikes me that the people who get the most exposure on the social media are the ones that are willing to make a fool of themselves or the ones who are genuinely funny but are doing what they do for financial gain. Now, don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely no reason why these people should not do what they do but this type of media is pointed toward an audience where I am unable to go. I am too sensible a proposition to suddenly become banal and pointless. I need to get a powerful and heavy (pardon the pun) message across to the world but to do this must I prostitute myself? I think not.

So therefore I think I may have to start increasing my audience by the simple fact that I myself have changed. I am now more active than I was, I eat so much more healthily than I did and what I do now is lifestyle choice that can be followed by anyone, pre bariatric, post bariatric and anyone wanting to losing a a little weight and simply get a little fitter.

That is not to say I will abandon the people who have made this blog the success it is today, I think we simply need to be joined by more friends and followers. The underlying message will still be the need for Bariatric Surgery to help out the morbidly Obese of this world – of which I was one and acknowledge that I continue to suffer the same mental issues surrounding food, self image, confidence etc that I always have done.

So perhaps I think if we tip a wink to simply getting fit, eating healthy and improving our lifestyles then many more people can become involved with our “gang” and can benefit from being part of this wonderful community that we have made for ourselves here on WP.

Obviously I would never do anything without the feedback of all of my lovely readers – yes, that means you guys… So would appreciate any and all feedback you might be able to give me regarding this and regarding how you might see that we can grow my blog for others to follow, that together we might make the positive impact required to raise as much money for HENRY as we possibly can, because at the end of the day the charity’s mission of giving children a healthy start in life in an attempt to prevent obesity in the younger and later years is one that we must simply all get behind before this terribly sad disease reaches an epidemic proportion and the streets are overrun with angry people on mobility scooters.

Let’s make this happen 🙂

So the food on Thursday wasn’t great I will admit it, I hold my hands up to deciding that I would have a treat day and although it wasn’t over the top there were plenty of treats and goodies in there that by the end of the day had sated my hunger for rubbish and I was back on track with a wholesome meal of Chili Con Carne and rice. What it does serve to prove is that eating poorly through the day makes weight gain so much more possible because pre bariatric I would have easily managed double the poor choices in a day and popped in a HUGE bowl of Chili at the end of it all making my total for the day easily over 3500 calories and I honestly would have though nothing of it.
Yes, we must all be allowed a treat but please remember to go steady with them as they soon catch us up!!

Now, regarding my exercise for yesterday, I was hoping that I would be able to show you a screen shot as proof that I walked with the dog and although I did indeed walk with my little pal, I forgot to turn the app on my phone off so Map My Walk, mapped me going out to two other local towns in my car whilst I ran some errands. Unfortunately, this simply equated to me appearing to walk 59 miles in an extremely quick – nay impossible time!! So due to that being a complete and utter untruth, I have decided not to share it with you as to be honest, it is completely pointless!!

Hopefully today I shall remember to use the app correctly as I walk with Archie and a friend and I can show you that I really am back to getting my full strength self a moving and a shaking…. 😉

    Splendid! There are so many out there on their own weight-loss journey or teetering on the brink of trying. I am certain that your words can inspire them and the bigger the following, the more chance of being taken seriously. And the fact is that obesity and overweight in general are issues that affect the entire population. Rally them, stamp out the dreadful discrimination, get people to realise that healthy choices, lifestyle changes are things we can all address but that sometimes individuals need a little extra help. After all in school you wouldn’t call the dyslexic child ‘thick’ and leave him to struggle and feel worse and worse about himself. You would give him the tools to help himself and you would be there to assist until he could stand on his own in the world. Crucially you would UNDERSTAND that he didn’t ask to be dyslexic. It’s actually exactly the same with the morbidly obese who can benefit from Gastric surgery.

    Hum…good morning Cameron, I read your article earlier and have been giving it some thought…and here they are….have you thought about getting the medical end of it on your team as far as, not so much advertising but offering your blog or self, or email to be available to those just starting this, for no better word at this time, journey/path in their lives, to be a reference for them to get in touch with??? and/or I think that you should write a post for all of us to repost on our blogs to help get the message/word/help to people that they need and spread it through out to all of our readers, just a thought….I am not sure you have Facebook…I have an account but am very sparingly on it, however it is a huge format for getting the word out…another place to put an informative post and ask us to post it on our sites, on about who what where when and why about yourself and twitter is the same…I don’t personally twitter but its a huge social media….and Jamie Oliver who is against obesity….reach out to him and his team…your charity is for the children and that is exactly right up JO’s path, what a better way to approach JO is the include the charity….. another thought is to get the charity to help get the word out about you, local radio and tv affiliates are generally more than happy to help out a good cause, so gyms….and fighting against childhood obesity is top on the list….hope his helps a little take it or leave em…these are just my thought…wished we lived closer I would be there helping you….and I agree prostituting yourself is not the way to go either….one last thought is there are other institutions, like the arthritis foundation in the UK, where they might be interested in helping you as obesity is arthritis worst enemy…just a lost minute thought….xxxKat

      I love the post for you guys to repost. I also love the FaceBook post for others to repost, and Twitter message. All great stuff for sure.
      Plus contacting co morbidity charities is a great idea!
      You are one wise cookie for sure!
      As for the J.O angle, that is most definitely being worked on as it is such a good in to getting the word out along with local radio and TV.
