Another Heatwave? But It’s Nearly October!

A heatwave is what they are calling it.

To be honest all it really is, is the sun has come out and warmed us up a little.

I honestly don’t think we can call 15˚c a heatwave, can we?

Obviously here in the UK, any sunshine is welcomed with open arms and because it is seldom seen, it is always headline news!

This is just another example where things are not as they seem, where we are expectant on the hype and where the truth doesn’t necessarily apply to the story because if we look at the day yesterday, yes it was lovely and bright but it was never really T Shirt only weather, there was definitely a need for a jumper if you were out of the direct sunshine. I even sat in the sun at my french doors but in the end had to close them over in order to remain warm whilst I had a little snooze 😉 #oldfart

So where am I going with this? Well I suppose I am leading on to another rant about weight loss surgery being the answer to everyones prayers because it will do all of the hard work for you.

As you probably know by now it does not, but the world doesn’t seem to appreciate this nor really care. All it wants to do is cast a negative spin on the the people who have had the surgery, in some cases saying it is the lazy way out.

Well it is not.

I think anyone who reads this blog regularly will know that I am more active and eat much more healthily since my operation. This hasn’t just come because of the operation (as I said in yesterday’s post “So What Changed Then?“) but because of a total shift of mentality because I was ready for and needed to change my lifestyle and the surgery for me was obviously the trigger point. The post yesterday obviously struck a chord because there were several comments agreeing with my take on the reasons we change and the fact we have to change.
Anyway, besides the fact that I eat healthily and go to the gym and walk, I am completely aware of the fact that I no longer eat takeaways, McDonalds, pizza’s, cream cakes, bread by the yard or any of the other crazy foods I used to regularly fill up on, no matter how much I might get the craving to do so. Okay, I will admit to the fact that the other week, I had a local speciality of Chips, Egg Fried Rice and Curry sauce in a tray and that was from the local Chinese takeaway. Now the reason I went for this is because after coming into my head literally everyday fro a fortnight, I knew I had to put a stop to it and put it to bed. The fact was that when I got it, I was only able to eat about a third of the portion before I had sated myself and the rest went in the bin. But the desire was gone and the surgical procedure had done what it was supposed to do and that was limit the amount I can eat.

Now as I have said in the past I could eat like that at every meal time everyday but I don’t. I do however know people who have the surgery and eat like that and wonder why they are still overweight or in some cases obese. But please know the successful bariatric patients do understand that in order for this procedure to work correctly they need to address their eating habits and lifestyle as being reliant on just the the belief that because we can’t eat as much we will no longer be fat really is no way near the solution.

And this is just the same as just because the sun shines all day, we are having a heatwave.

Food from Friday wasn’t too bad. Admittedly I didn’t have the best of starts to the day but I was up and out early and ended up in a position where I needed to get something whilst I was out and the Bacon roll fulfilled my requirements. Not great for the calories and the carbs due to the roll itself, so it’s just as well I ended up walking over ten miles on the day in question! Mind you, even with the roll, the totals for the day were quite excellent so I even had room for a Mini Magnum Ice Cream. A decadent indulgence and one that doesn’t break the calorie bank when you consider they are only 60gms in weight but pack a sweet craving satisfaction punch.

If I am honest there was supposed to be a trip to the gym yesterday but for some reason I just never got around to it and so kind of failed myself a little in that respect. I think a lack of things to do allowed me to feel a bit tired and put it to the back of my mind whilst I concentrated on walking the dog. Perhaps I might go to the gym today and  get my fix even if it is a day late. Maybe a lay in in the morning would also help recharging the batteries but we do have to consider it is Sunday today and I will therefore be attempting the log walk with the dog.

All that said though, my Map My Walk screenshots showed I was active and burnt off some calories first thing in the morning and then again just around sunset.

As the above was the first walk of the day I still had to go out again to stretch tiny’s legs before he retired for the evening. This I did with a walk around sunset whilst there was still a little warmth in the air.

Both of these walks helped me beat my target total for the day, managing 11588 steps so I was happy with that for sure.

I will now just need to see how I do today and if I can exceed the target once more with the long walk we have planned for today.

    We are basking in slightly higher temperatures than you (around the 20 degrees) but it still needs a cardy I can tell you and the nights are reminding us that it aint summer! I enjoyed this piece and I am glad you are getting that angry mojo engaged to fire away at the doubters. And a little of what you fancy (or indeed obsess over) is never a bad thing. Look at you – most of the Wantage Special in the bin and no more craving. Go go go fella …. I continue to cheer from the touchline 🙂

    Love your post…I believe that more people need to understand that its not a miracle weight loss cure and no matter which approach one takes, it is all about the hard word and eating healthy food…forever and not just a set amount of time….hey you are doing great…its not a problem to satisfy a craving, and you didn’t even finish it or put it in the fridge for later….see how well you are learning…its all about keeping yourself feeling satisfied and happy….your doing great Cam…and go kick some ass and stir it all up….people need to be reminded and taught about the path of weight loss….your doing great…!!!!!

    As always, great post! I know someone that had the sleeve a couple years ago. She seems to be putting on weight again. While I do not want to judge (as we all know how that feels), it makes me nervous about where will I be in 2-3 years. But I think it goes back to what you say here. She does not exercise nor does she restrict what she eats. I think it is absolutely ok to indulge occasionally. We cannot completely deprived ourselves. I know some believe you have to but I do not think that is realistic. The key is that it cannot be the norm. You are doing so great! Thanks for sharing all you do

      It is remarkable how everyone is expected to be a paragon of virtue and never eat or drink unhealthily ever again. That is impossible. BUT we must curtail our cravings, get active and embrace our new lifestyle as that is the only way it will work. The people we know have other issues causing the poor choices and they really should have been addressed prior to surgery.
      I too worry incase I start to put weight on as I am not always the best eater but hopefully my active lifestyle will help as time moves on.
      P.S, it is a pleasure to share as I hope it inspires at least one person to make a go of it themselves.
