If You Snooze You Lose

As the old saying goes “If You Snooze You Lose”

I don’t know where this came from but nowadays I have to admit it is true for me.

I set my alarm for when I want to get up in the morning and 95% of the time I am awake before it goes off. I also have an alarm built into my Jawbone Up24 for the sleep cycle so it vibrates at a set time.

No time for laying around in my bed as the day fritters away.

To be honest, it’s not so much about time but more about a lack of inclination to lay in bed. When I wake I am up and at them as the saying goes. I have recharged my batteries and am on my way. However, I do recall right up to and past my operation date (5 months ago yesterday) I would struggle to get out of bed and quite happily roll over to grab another forty winks.

This can only mean one thing:

Perhaps a fitter and leaner body doesn’t feel the need to have as much sleep and perhaps a sedentary lifestyle really does affect every aspect of your life including motivation for throwing off the chains that bind you to your bed. Now I am not sure if there is scientific proof in this but I honestly feel so good today in comparison to way back when, I cannot compare the two. What I do know is that I have felt it myself and had others tell me how motivated they feel in the morning when they are fitter.

As you know I train three times a week and walk six. This in itself is more than I have done in many a year so by rights should I not be more tired from the extra activity? You would think so but no, by being active and eating healthy I improve my breathing, my cholesterol, my recovery rates along with many other improvements the body makes when you attempt to be better than you were the day before. This in itself improves my mental mood, my overall well being and feeling good makes me happy and remember that inner happiness IS the fuel to success.

So yes, it does follow that if you snooze, you most definitely DO lose.

Well as you can see, everything was going swimmingly until the end of the day when I had someone round for dinner! To be honest though, it wasn’t too bad as I actually made everything from scratch apart from the fruit tart and cream and given that I only had a small amount of that, it wasn’t so bad.

There was no exercise yesterday apart from the usual gentle stroll with his lordship the dog. This was a simple affair with no real rush. We walked at a cooler part of the day so Archie didn’t suffer as much as he usually does in the heat.

Unfortunately my Jawbone Up24 broke and I was unable to exchange it as it appears to be out of stock now so it leads me to wonder if there was an issue with them in the first place which is why they have been discontinued. Because of this there is no step information and because of that there seemed little point in tracking the walk on Map My Walk because it was just a gentle stroll to stretch both mine and the dogs legs.

Tomorrow I will be back in the gym and I shall also be undertaking a new class called Body Balance which mixes Tai Chi with Yoga with Pilates so lets see what that is like after a gym session and if I actually have any energy left to walk the little fella as I expect to.
