Long since this was muted as the way of today’s world I am starting to think it myself.
Thursday IS the new Friday!
How many of us get to a Thursday now and think “you know what, I think I will just go over to the pub for an hour to relax” or “I shall open a nice cold beer or pour a nice cold glass of wine and sit in the garden” ? I’ll bet there are more than ever before doing this even if we don’t even realise it.
On a Thursday we are already winding down, some of us have done our last trip to the gym for the week. Some of us may have even finished for the week because of the fact we might have the Friday off due to flexi-time.
What I am saying is, in this day and age the entire western world is directed to relaxation and free time and how much of it you can get yourself. No one wants to be working hard when they know they have a busy night out planned or a busy weekend coming up.
Flights are now so cheap that it is often less money to take a flight to a European capital city and soak up it’s culture than it is to spend the weekend at home, go to the pub, have a take away and spend Sunday at the garden centre (okay, that’s a bit extreme, but I think you know what I mean)
Personally my work is 24/7 but even I see the excitement in a Thursday but I honestly know not why… I remember when I was a child that Thursday meant going to Waitress with my Mother for the weekly shop. I was allowed to choose my dinner for that evening and pretty much usually had a Turkey and Chicken pie from the Deli counter, along with a packet of Skips (a prawn flavoured maize based chip) and a Crunchie (a chocolate covered honeycomb sweet) for my dessert but the best bit was that we got in from shopping in time to watch Top of The Pops (the weekly music chart show) Perfection!
Maybe back then this was the height of excitement for a small boy in a small town in the middle of England but it was obviously the start of my belief that the weekend was starting already. I was eating my favourite food and watching my favourite program, what more is there in a small boys heart…?
Perhaps even back then when they said “Thank Crunchie it’s Friday” I already knew they should be saying “Thank Crunchie it’s Thursday” because in the modern world in which I live, I work my hardest from Monday to Thursday and generally take things a little easier as the weekend approaches and even though I always have something to be getting on with, I never let this cloud my belief that Thursday is the new Friday.

So the food diary for Tuesday wasn’t too bad. The carbs and proteins were as expected considering the bread (even though it was Rye) and the Quinoa in the Prawn Salad. At least the calories looked good which is just as well because the day in question the only exercise I got was a gentle walk with the dog and my general movement around the local area and at home.
Yesterday however I was back in the gym and back walking the dog like we were both on a mission. It was hot day and although Archie did suffer a little, the little critter kept up and managed to see the walk out actually speeding up when we started on the home stretch at the top of my mothers road! Anyway, the walk looked like this:
As usual the gym concentrated firstly on my 25 minutes of cardio followed by my strength training. The cardio as ever was split between the three exercises and I am pleased to say that I was able to increase the levels by one on all exercises so I am now back to the levels reached before my enforced lay off. The strength training was as always kept to the usual intense standard with the following exercises:
2 x 30 Reps 30kg Abductor machine
2 x 30 Reps 30kg Adductor machine
2 x 30 Reps 35kg Abdominal Crunch machine
2 x 30 Reps 35kg Lower Back machine
3 x 30 Reps 20kg Cable Row
2 x 20 Reps 20kg Chest Press
2 x 20 Reps 35kg Pec Deck
3 x 30 Reps 20kg Tricep Pull Down
3 x 30 Reps 8kg (each arm) Bicep Dumbell Curl
3 x 30 Standing Oblique 20kg Barbell Twists (15 each side)
3 x 30 Standing Russian Oblique Weighted Bar Twists (15 each side)
This training along with my walk gave me the following Polar H7 reading telling me I had burnt over 950 calories:
Not a bad days exercise considering it was quite a warm day and I was being run from pillar to post helping everyone else but myself! Still that in itself was a bonus because it meant the Jawbone Up24 gave me a nice reading of over 13,000 steps meaning I smashed my 10,000 step daily target, which was nice 😉
By the way, it was 5 months ago today that I went under the knife.
I think you could say A LOT has changed since then, couldn’t you……?
