That Was The Week That Was

Well that’s another week down and yet another milestone reached. By milestone I refer to the fact that this week I was able to wear a pair of trousers that only a matter of three months ago, I would not have been able to get on and by get on I mean I literally do not think I would have been able to get them on my legs let alone done up. Yet on Friday I wore them all day without issue.

This last week was one of mixed emotions to be honest. Obviously I went to the gym and I walked the dog. I wrote my blog and I cooked my meals but honestly I realise now I was simply going through the motions, passing time until Friday, the day of a funeral I was to attend.

I really do not like to dwell on something so personal but I realise now that I hadn’t really mourned the passing of the lady who died and I only write about it now as it has affected my mindset regarding my exercise and wellness, the thing which makes you guys tune in and read. Yes, over the past couple of weeks I had shed a tear and thought about her but it is only since the burial on Friday have I felt a bit odd to be honest. The two days since Friday have seen me feeling a little lacklustre having to use and stores of energy to simply get on with life leaving nothing for walking, gym or if I am honest blogging. I know it is only a passing phase and I will soon be out of this funk but it is odd how I appear to be having a slightly delayed reaction to the events of the past fortnight.

The week started well, I wrote about a mammoth walk Archie, myself and friend undertook last Sunday. It was a simply lovely day, great company, a great walk and a great deal of expended calories. Yes on Monday I was feeling a little worn out as I had completely depleted my energy stores so needed to recharge my batteries, but as I still needed to cook my meal on Monday for the Tasty Tuesday post, I had things to be getting on with. The actual day of Tuesday found me driving to Wales and then spending lunchtime/afternoon with a friend and resulted in it being best just to use a second day of relaxation in order continue recharging the batteries. On Wednesday it was a return to the normal state of events. I went to the gym and battered myself with a new regime, I walked the dog for a decent distance and I ate sensibly ticking all of the boxes I like to tick on my daily basis. Thursday saw me repeat this process and brought equally encouraging results, again pushing myself to new limits in the gym as I added yet more exercise to the regime.

Then Friday came and I talked for the first time about the loss of Aunty Stella and the fact I would be attending the funeral that day dressed in relatively bright colours and casual clothes. It was a nice day, a good send off and I remained healthy all day not partaking of any cake at all even though there was enough to feed a small army. The evening saw me relax with some friends and have a very enjoyable time knowing I would be back to normal the next day, yet three days on and I am only just beginning to feel as though this might be something I could manage.

So, it’s time to put the past away and continue forging ahead. I must practise what I preach and live my life by the rules I set out in this blog. I must not be a spectator and I should not concern myself if things are too routine because it is these things that are good for me and everyone for that matter.

As they say, today is a new day, it is the first day of the rest of my life and I shall choose to use it as such, I shall get out of this funk and I shall get back to the business of improving my life and carving out a future.

After all, what do we have if we don’t consider ourselves to have a future?

I mean, what use is a healthy lifestyle blog about eating, exercise and walking if two of the key components are missing…. 😉
