A Small Celebration Of My Own

As I said yesterday I went for lunch with some pals who had not seen me since before the operation. This was a great day, I was pleased to see them but unfortunately, it had a bit of a knock-on effect to the rest of my day.

The food diary below is for yesterday (Saturday) and as you will see below was a little crazy because of some “not as wise as I usually am” choices I made.

BUT.

It was a Saturday evening and I had just watched Arsenal win the F.A Cup which put me in a great mood, but unfortunately it didn’t outweigh the fact I was also a bit fed up at having to come home early when all of my pals were still out having a good time… 😦

Still, at least it wasn’t a total write off. I may have had some goodies but I kept it all to a minimum which is a new experience for me.

I stopped at one pint of Cider as even though it was hot and the sun was shining as it was all I really fancied to be honest, plus I didn’t have any wine with my lunch.

I ordered a small Seafood Linguine which was ideal for my new tummy size but I even left a good deal of that!

This takes me to home time and watching the football.

As I watched, I ate crisps and chocolate, BUT I only had a small bar of chocolate and as for the crisps, I only had a small handful of those from a big bag and put the rest away.

I mention the above because before the operation, at lunch I would have eaten a starter, a main course, a dessert and probably drank as much Cider as I liked. I would then have come home and eaten ALL of the crisps, a BIG bar of chocolate and probably drunk some sugary Soda Pop.

Now as I have discussed before, this is not an option for me as my stomach size is too small BUT the good bit is, it didn’t even come into my mind to do such a thing.

It is incredible to think that I once took solace in junk food. The healing but destroying power of junk food is quite a thing to admit to. It anaesthetises you from the world ONLY during the time you are eating but it is gone the minute you have finished and the self loathing starts in earnest for having done that to yourself. It is weird how I no longer think like that.

It is hardly surprising then that I felt guilty for having the treats that I did, but when I looked at the quantities involved and realised that I had literally only done what millions of others do on an evening after a hard week, I started to realise that the guilt was a throw back to the days when I could devour crap without thinking about it.

Yes I was fed up, but I didn’t take solace from a ton of junk food. I had a couple of small treats whilst I watched the football, after which I ate a not so sensible but fun meal of Organic All Beef Patties and a super small portion of chips (okay, again maybe these weren’t the best but they went best with the Patties 😉 ) and that was my Saturday night taken care of. I honestly think we all need to cut loose on occasion because I rose the next day feeling refreshed and clear headed with no cravings, no feelings of missing out and still buzzing because the team I support won the F.A Cup!

Maybe my brain is beginning to reap the benefit of my body’s changes….

Here’s a quick question for all of you post diet people out there, whether you be Bariatric or Weight Watcher, how do you now celebrate when the situation presents itself and can you stop once you start…?

A slightly heavy carbs, fats and calories day but in the grand scheme of things I suppose no where near as bad as it could have been so I must take a positive from that and put it all down to experience. I firmly believe that you need to let go every few weeks and cut loose the ties that bind otherwise what is it all for? I am happy to report that now I no longer have the cravings for any of the above bits so lets see how long I can last until the next time!

You will note that there are no Jawbone readings or Gym reports and that is because I used the day as my scheduled rest day and although I should maybe have gone to the gym, it would probably have been counter effective and simply just delayed my required rest day so all in all, it was probably for the best that I sat at home on my bum!

So a small celebration, a sensible rest day and clear head for a Monday, what more could you want from your weekend.

Till tomorrow,

Stay out of the fridge.

P.S. Once again, I have the begging hat on people, if you know anyone or any company that can help with the supply of a Suunto Ambit3 or similar then please do get in touch!!!

Going out to dinner still seems to be the way we celebrate anything. I’ve still gone and enjoyed the small bites – I’ve just focused on the social piece of being with friends vs. what I can or can’t eat. Last night we went to a great restaurant and I had 2 pieces of cheese from a cheese plate and 2 bites of my Hubby’s ahi tuna. They were heavenly bites and seemed to take me as long to eat as the rest of them with regular sized meals.

It’s weird how we are all different and can eat different amounts. That said, it was only a small bowl or Linguine and I was well short of eating a significant amount. The pint of cider probably affected my appetite by reducing the amount of room in my stomach and intestine but on the whole I enjoyed myself, I was just maybe a little sad that I couldn’t go mad, but then thats what got me here in the first place….

Agree in how everyone is so different. I really have a love/hate relationship with food right now. I love the little bites and different flavors, but during the week trying to get in my protein goals is exhausting.

A bad day is ok now and again. Tomorrow is the start of a new day but the bad behind you and remember just how far you have come. Not just in your eating habits but in your self esteem your exercise and all the reconnections with friends and the new ones. Oh and if it helps I had pizza yesterday which I never eat. .. and didn’t walk like I normally do back to it today:))

Absolutely. I have written many times about catastrophic thinking and the fact as soon as we allow it to, it will undo all of our good work. However, the good thing about this gastric sleeve I have opted for its there are no cheats. I can have a crap day but it is still only a tiny amount of crap in the day and I usually feel rubbish afterward because I haven’t been able to eat the wholesome food my body requires because there was simply not enough room in my stomach. Lucky in a way.
P.S I’m making pizza this evening for tomorrows Tasty Tuesday. I only hope it works…. :-/

That wasn’t so bad….its wrong to even label it bad…it was an evening out without the calorie counter around our neck, and it sounds like your fully aware of how much, and are able to stop and push it away…good for you, able to eat only a few crisp and a small chocolate bare…I say good job….its not like your going to do this everyday, it was a nice day with your friends and aren’t we all allowed a fun day every know and then…I think we are….Tasty Tuesdays sounds like fun….lots of healthy pizzas out there….and good ones!!!

Well tune back in tomorrow because the Pizza was a success and it worked so well I shall definitely make it again, especially when it is so easy and offers such great tastes with little given up in the way of nutrition.
As for the celebration, you are right, I was back on the “wagon” the next day and have been good today as well. I want to lose 7kgs by the end of the month so I had better knuckle down and get sensible…!
