Shaking Things Up A Little

Good Morning my friends in cyber land, and welcome to another day here on planet earth.

Things are going pretty well here in the land of the Worlds Biggest Fridge Magnet, I am getting things done, I am living a much healthier lifestyle and most of all I am enjoying my life so much more than I have done for so many many years. Yes some days I still need the stick to get about but that is only to be expected with someone who has suffered from chronic and debilitating back pain for the past 15 years but you know, even with this pain, I can’t remember feeling this good in so long.

Now, even though it has been years since I felt this good, I don’t sit alone at home wondering what if and regretting not having this “lifestyle epiphany” sooner. I think I have said before that I believe everybody is where they have to be at any given time and there are no short cuts to this moment we currently live in. I am positive that if I had not have waited until I did, I would not be experiencing this life changing feeling as intensely as I do. It is a great feeling that far outweighs any chips or chocolate, any ice-cream or fizzy drink and these are just some of the items I have not “craved” since the operation. I still get hankerings for certain foods and they often go when ignored, but even on the odd occasion if I do indulge myself it is such a small amount it has far less consequences than it ever did before. So being exactly where I am today is allowing me to realise this, put it into practice and not sit still. I need to strive for new challenges and because of this it is becoming apparent that I need to make further changes to my new life to increase the benefits I have already seen.

So anyway, whats with todays title?

Well after three weeks of very little change to my weight even though I am eating much more healthily than I have done in years have made me decide that maybe there needs to be a shake up in my routine. My brother, who is an avid “keep fitter” and as such is keen on watching my progress, contacted me yesterday to discuss my static weight loss figures and the issues that may be behind them because even though I am managing to burn calories and am taking on board far fewer than I have EVER done in my life there has to be a reason for lack of change. Yes my body might be changing shape but there was an apparent need to kick start the fat burning process once more, with that obviously being the whole reason behind the weight loss surgery and subsequent fitness regime. With this in mind I have decided that it is of paramount importance that as well as my walking, I add an element of cardio fitness to my training schedule so that it might boost my metabolism and kickstart my fat burning process once again.

A very good day on the food diary.. I had a few bits to do at my mothers house so to be honest I think the fact I was very busy and drank a good deal of water really prevented me from fixating on the lunchtime meal.

End result was a very low calorie day and more than likely a negative count on the calories when taking into account the fact that I walked and went to the gym to not only lift weights but also do the added cardio exercises!

Obviously everyday cannot be like this but it does actually show that it can be done, but to be honest, I don’t think I would recommend it :-/

The gym session looked like this:

  1. 3 x 15 Reps 30kg Abductor machine
  2. 3 x 15 Reps 30kg Adductor machine
  3. 3 x 20 Reps 30kg Abdominal Crunch machine
  4. 3 x 15 Reps 30kg Lower Back machine
  5. 3 x 15 Reps 25kg Cable Row
  6. 3 x 15 Reps 7.5kg Shoulder Press
  7. 3 x 15 Reps 30Kg Chest Press
  8. 3 x 15 Reps 30Kg Pec Deck
  9. 3 x 15 Reps 20Kg Tricep Pull Down
  10. 2 x 15 Reps 6kg and 1 x 25 Reps 6kg (each arm) Bicep Dumbell Curl
  11. 3 x 20 Standing Oblique Bar Twists

Once again the exercises were done whilst the core was set and stomach muscles tensed so I got maximum effect for the core. Although the shoulder press was reduced as I have a slight niggle with my right shoulder.

BUT! Lets not be forgetting, I also added 15 minutes of bicycle cardio

and 5 minutes of the stepping machine in a bid to get some of this fat burnt off and kickstart the weight loss once again.

To say that the sweat was literally dripping off of me after I had finished would be an understatement, plus we must allow for the warm up of walking around the Millennium Stones park at Ardington and made sure I went up the incline twice – yes twice! Hopefully that should start to show some results a few weeks from now and to that end I have an appointment at the gym to measure my vital statistics today (measurements to be posted tomorrow) and will repeat again in one months time so we will can see what effect this change of gym program has had.

The Jawbone readout came to this:

Not a full 10,000 steps to day but plenty of other activity alongside them and plenty of sleep. Just what the Jawbone ordered… 😉 A very productive day all round. An increase in the cardio and thorough re-jig of my lifestyle is on the cards so keep tuning in for the next instalment.

Exciting times ahead…

‘Till tomorrow,

Stay out of the fridge.

I consider myself suitably chastised!. You are correct to say that we need the nutrition in order to sustain the weight loss. I have no idea why I didn’t pick up on it. Thank you for pointing it out Carol and I promise never to let it happen again!!

Ha … please don’t think I’m the diet police … just really want you to lose weight by nourishing your body rather than starving it. Don’t make food your enemy or you’ll always be at war. Don’t make it a friend either – it’s not … food is just food. Onwards and downwards …. C x

Absolutely not at all. It is good to get advice from people who know and understand the situation properly. To be honest, I didn’t miss the meal by design or choice, it was simply a situation that occurred and I didn’t want to eat anything that wasn’t part of the diet plan. Better planning for the future is required so it doesn’t happen again. Promise!
